Psst… you know that expensive decoupage glue? It’s just *gasp* watered down regular glue.
Ok, ok. There are several kinds of specialty decoupage glues that are quite wonderful (and a little harder to recreate), but I’m talking about the most basic ‘podge. All you need to make your own is glue, water and a jar. My glue of choice is a “tacky” glue (no surprise there), but for most projects you can get away with any white glue, just as long as it dries clear.
Here’s how it’s done:
1. Empty an entire 4oz/118ml bottle of white glue into a 250ml lidded jar.
2. Add 4 Tbsp water.
3. Screw the lid on tightly and shake, shake, shake.
4. Check the consistency – if it’s too thick, add a touch more water and shake again.
5. Let the mixture stand for a while to let the bubbles un-bubble themselves.
That’s it! But, really, how hard did you think it would be to water-down some glue? Now you can use your homemade podge on paper or fabric. Click here to see how I made Halloween Votive Holders!
