Over the Top 2015 – a sneak peek!

There are about a million signs of spring – puddles, potholes, birds, flowers, bare legs. But, for me, the first indication that spring has sprung is MAWA’s “Over the Top” – an annual gathering of artists, collectors, and cupcake enthusiasts.

Every spring, we cram ourselves into MAWA’s little space on Main Street and cram cupcakes into our face-holes, while bidding on art and rubbing shoulders with Winnipeg’s creative who’s who.

For the last five years, I have attended as an artist, baker and sometimes bidder. This year, I have donated two new vintage lady collages – “Vicky” and “You Might As Well Be Amusing.”

I will have prints available after the event, but if you want an original, you’ll have to stop by MAWA this weekend and place your bid. (Bidding on each of these pieces starts at $50.)

And, if these aren’t your thing, there are dozens and dozens (hundreds?) of other amazing pieces up for grabs. And, did I mention that it’s for a great cause? All proceeds from the auction go to supporting the awesome programs at MAWA (Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art.)

If that’s STILL not enough to tempt you, your ticket gives you free reign at the cupcake tables on Sunday afternoon. Yes, TABLES with an S. What puts this event “over the top” is the thousand or so cupcakes donated by amateur and professional bakers, like me. (I will be contributing two dozen lemon curd and two dozen spiced apple…more about those later…) It’s a proven fact that you can’t be miserable while eating a cupcake, so this pretty much guarantees that you’ll have fun. Even if you don’t win the painting that you had your eye on.

Oh, and there’s also a raffle with some seriously amazing gift baskets crammed with local goodies. Convinced yet??

Bidding starts tonight and wraps up at the big shindig on Sunday (2-5pm). For more information, please check out the event page on MAWA’s website.

I’ll see you on Sunday! If you get there before me, save me a cupcake or three!

Sew Many Pins!

Several months ago, I had the opportunity to create a large order of custom domino pins for a friend (and ex-Winnipegger), Brandy Maslowski.

All of the pins feature fun, “quilty” sayings and are available on Brandy’s website – Brandy Lynn Designs

I had so much fun creating these pins – especially the special “I ❤ CQT” pins with cut-out red hearts. They were a little more work, but I love, love, love how they turned out.

New! Teacup Candles

A hand-poured, natural beeswax candle in a vintage teacup? Take my money! No, wait…. that’s not how this works…

But, seriously, these are pretty sweet. The beeswax is from happy prairie bees and is unrefined, so it still has its distinctive fragrance and golden colour. The teacups are Royal Wessex by Swinnertons (sounds very British), date back to the 50s, and feature a lovely aqua/grey floral and 22 karat gold trim. They make a lovely gift… but I won’t tell if you decide to treat yourself.

Teacup Candles – $16 each

Oh, honey!

I am so, so, so excited about this stuff!
My lipbalm is naturally moisturizing and contains only four ingredients  – natural beeswax and raw honey from Canadian prairie bees, organic canola oil, and vitamin e.
That’s it. No colour. No flavour. No sparkles. (But don’t let me stop you from using it under your brightest, sparkliest lipgloss!)
Oh, honey! Lipbalm – $4 each
